Eligibility

Who is Eligible for Free Government Phone?

Getting a free phone might be easier than you think. If you or someone in your household is enrolled in certain assistance programs or earns a low income, you could be eligible.

Here are some of the most common programs that qualify:

  • SNAP (Food Stamps)
  • Medicaid or Medi-Cal
  • SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
  • Veterans Pension or Survivors Benefits
  • WIC (Women, Infants, and Children Program)
  • Lifeline Program
  • Section 8 or Public Housing Assistance
  • Tribal TANF or other Tribal-based assistance
  • Free or Reduced-Price School Lunch or Breakfast
  • Federal Pell Grant (current academic year)
  • LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program)

Even if you’re not enrolled in one of these programs, you may still qualify based on your income. If your household earnings fall within the approved federal income limits, you could still get a free phone and monthly service — no program enrollment required.
