Lifeline
Lifeline is a federal program that helps low-income people get free or discounted phone and internet service. It’s meant to make sure everyone can stay connected—to call family, reach a doctor, apply for jobs, or get help in an emergency.
You may qualify if you’re part of programs like SNAP, SSI, Medicaid, or if your income is within the federal guidelines. If approved, you can get a free smartphone and monthly service that usually includes talk, text, and data—depending on your provider.
Lifeline is available across all 50 states, U.S. territories, and Tribal lands. Only one Lifeline phone or internet benefit is allowed per household, and you’ll need to use the service at least once every 30 days to keep it active.
